In Pictures: Chichén Itzá

Visited Mexico for the first time in May 2023. Staying in the Mayan Riviera, Quintana Roo. The one thing that was an absolute must see was the site of Chichén Itzá in Yucatan, some 40km west of Valladolid. The iconic ancient structure at the centre piece, known as El Castillo (the Castle), no one knows for sure how it was constructed, or even the foundations it lays on. It’s believed the building could suffer serious structural damage if the foundations are disturbed, so until technology catches up to find out without doing so, it’s all educated guess work.
